Fashion Tips For Plus Size Ladies Over 50

Women are just like fine wine. As they get older, more mature, and more beautiful, their inner woman seems to gain a sense of assured confidence, brought on by the years of experience in life. I have always admired women over 50 who carry their age with a sense of pride, style and class.

As women get older their sense of fashion seems to mature along with them. What is trendy and ‘in fashion’ might not necessarily be the apparel of choice any longer. Why does this happen? Probably as women get busier and have more responsibilities they seem to opt for items which are comfortable to work in not necessarily stylish.

However I think women should not give up their sense of style, just because their day got busier and a few gray hairs are showing up here and there. On the other hand as women get older they should adjust to their age, by choosing items of clothing which enhance their beauty and their figure.

Plus size women who are over 50 have every reason to dress in a stylish manner. Stores which cater for their needs might not necessarily be easily available, that is true. However that is no reason to compromise. Especially with the Internet being so widely available these days, a multitude of store are suddenly available to cater for a mature plus size woman’s needs. For instance store like Ulla Popken and Junonia have a great selection of plus size clothing available which is great for the mature woman’s needs. Prices are reasonable and sizes are vast.

Mature plus size ladies should be careful to choose items which make the most of their curves, and also their age. Some tips to abide by are the following –

1. Be careful to choose the right size to fit your body. Don’t go for items which fit too tightly, the idea if for clothing to hug your body so that is gives it definition and enhances the curves. Choosing items which are too tight will not look too classy. At the same times items which are too baggy should also be avoided. Your dress of choice does not have to look like a tent! Just because you’re plus size, does not mean you have to hide your body. Show off those beautiful curves in a classy and chic manner.

2. Avoid fussy prints. Fussy fabrics have the tendency to make plus size women look even bigger. While we are proud of our curves, the clothing we choose should make the most of our full figures, enhancing them instead of giving them wrong definition.

3. Stick to classic designs and clean cuts. Just as fussy printed fabrics make us look a little bit bigger, so do fussy designs. For example avoid too much frill and things of the sort. Such clothing does not help define a full figured body to the best of it’s shape. Instead stick clean cuts and classic designs which work best for our curves.

4. Try and avoid wearing anything that is too short. If you have beautiful legs, be proud of them and by all mean show them off whenever you get a chance however, do this with taste, style and moderation. Do wear skirts and shorts. However avoid anything that is too short.

5. As we get older, some parts of our body tend to lose some of that useful gravity. This is nothing to worry about, as when choosing clothes and underwear with good support, things can be kept up to the necessary heights at all times. However I would suggest not to exposure the arms too much.

Being over 50 does not mean women have to give up on having a sense of style. Especially not plus size women! On the other hand women should make the most of this time in their life. With the right clothes any plus size lady who is over 50 can look and feel like a million dollars!

Build Your New Fall and Winter Wardrobe From Scratch With Just 9 Items

We have been used to sexy, flirty light hearted looks all through Spring and Summer. This Autumn Winter Season, instead of the expected glamourously sexy looks we have come to expect, the fashion world decided to do something completely different. Sexy is so out. Now, romantic, genteel, ladylike styles that grandma used to wear are the hottest in thing.

That leaves us with a problem. Now our entire wardrobe is passe. What used to be sexy is now tarty. Time to rebuild your wardrobe from scratch.

Since the trend now is towards well tailored, high quality, hard to knock off clothing, aim for ladylike chic. Think of Grace Kelly. Even Lady Diana. Now what would they wear?

The look goes beyond princess like looks. It is now a cross between Cinderella and Goth. Dark, somber colors in luxurious styles, brimming with romantic details fit for that fairy tale princess, who somehow, ended up with Count Dracula.

Enough whining. Time to whip that wardrobe into shape. First, focus on quality, not quantity.

Pick 9 gorgeous pieces that are very now. These basics are all you need to rebuild your Autumn and Winter wardrobe from scratch. Prepare to look totally chic as the temperatures fall. Every piece has to be really well made. Go for the best you can afford. The look for this season is ladylike chic. The kind that demands and gets respect.

Get ready for plenty of somber black, plum, deep colors with a light touch from pink clothes to lift things a little.

Choose your color scheme. Pick 3 colors in tune with the season’s gothic romance mode. Black, plum and bright pink, or Navyblue, gray and pale pink are some ideas you could work with. Pick colors that you look your best in and which go with one another. Alternatively, try a striking combination of black, white and red.

Once you have decided on your color scheme, stick with it. That way, everything in your wardrobe goes with everything else, giving you countless looks from those few pieces.

Feel free to choose items with frills, ribbons and other romantic details as these define this season’s romantic fashion trends.

#1 1 gorgeous winter coats or a fur vest. This is going to be your main look whenever you are outdoors. The fur vest is the latest thing for this fall, winter season though. And it really dresses up everything you wear it with. Even a pair of jeans looks formal when you wear a fur vest.

#2 1 perfectly tailored women’s suits in any of your 3 chosen colors. A well tailored skirt and jacket combination that is feminine and versatile. This is something you can wear everyday. You could wear it with a blouse for work, and switch to a lacy camisole for a dinner date. You could wear the jacket and skirt (or pants if that is what you prefer) in the suit as separates.

#3 Ok. I know that feminine, loose floaty clothes are in. What with the tulip skirt and all. But seriously. Who wants to have hips that look even larger than reality? No, you still need a pair of jeans. I don’t care what the fashion magazines or designers dish out to us. Women have a right to wear clothes that flatter the real figure. What is hot, has always been hot and always will be hot is a pair of tight jeans. A pair that makes you look your very best. You wear the clothes, not the other way around.

#4 Wool tights, pantyhose or stockings. Again for warmth and class. to keep your legs warm when you wear a skirt or a dress. In autumn and winter, you need warm, practical tights especially when your legs are exposed.

#5 A romantic, floaty blouse that is so now. This time around, the look is romantic. The oversized man style shirt wouldn’t do. You need something romantic. The blouse is the new season’s must have.

#6 A beautiful dress. What could be more romantic than a dress. Dresses are hot this season, especially now that the romantic look is big. You need at least 1 blouse in your new wardrobe.

#7 A pair of boots that go with everything in your new wardrobe. They keep you warm they are versatile and give your outfit an edge. Ok, so if you want to go with the ladylike vibe, then a pair of stacked heel loafers would be more in order.

#8 A pair of leather gloves to keep your hands warm and which which look really sleek. Who needs fat hands? Leather gloves keep you warm without that added bulk.

#9 A knit top to stretch your wardrobe further. The classic every autumn and winter is the turtle neck. It looks elegant and keeps your neck warm. If your neck is short and you do look like a turtle in a turtle neck, then try a v-neck top but remember to wear scarves when you go out.

Girls’ Tennis Clothing Comes Of Age

A Girl’s Tennis Clothing Is Fashioned By Her Mother’s Desires

The styles and scope of girls’ tennis clothing has recently blossomed to match the rapid growth of fashionable women’s tennis clothing, and seems to gain momentum year on year.

There’s a twin conflicting desire for women to both model their tennis outfits on the most successful and stylish players in the game, and yet at the same time look different, exclusive and unique.

There’s yet another desire to wear state-of-the-art apparel that maximizes protection and cooling on court, to gain a competitive advantage as the tennis match ‘heats up’. Most women’s tennis apparel now contains technology to protect against the sun’s rays, to ward off odor-causing bacteria growth, to cool the skin by efficiently channeling away moisture, and even to cushion and support muscles for optimum performance.

Naturally, mothers want their fledgling tennis stars to benefit from all these tennis clothing attributes, in style and textile technology. Tennis clothes manufacturers have catered to this demand with dresses. skirts, skorts, tops and shoes for girls that sport many or all of the features of their adult counterpart.

This is good business sense on the part of tennis apparel manufacturers like Adidas, Nike, Fila, Prince, Babolat etc. Once a young lady gets to liking a particular tennis brand, she’ll likely stay loyal throughout her tennis years.

The Tennis Apparel Dark Ages

Way back in the early 1970s, at about the time that Chris Evert was emerging as a world class tennis player, a woman called Marilyn Kosten was getting very frustrated at the lack of pretty tennis clothing available to buy for her two daughters, who were about to compete in junior tennis competitions. She channeled that frustration into forming her own tennis apparel business, designing the girls’ clothing herself.

Her business really took off in 1977, when a young rising star called Tracy Austin wore one of Marilyn’s dresses during her passage to victory at the US Open. Tracy also wore the dress at Wimbledon, and so introduced this innovative and stylish girl’s tennis clothing to a much wider audience.

Three and a half decades later, tennis apparel has changed out of all recognition. Fashion is even more to the fore, vying with sports clothing fabric technology to yield a fusion of style and function that shapes every new garment. 100% cotton is now a rarity, with subtle combinations of man-made fibres best able to offer the comfort and mobility demanded by today’s athletes.

Mary Kosten’s ‘Little Miss tennis’ business is still flourishing, and now caters to young boy’s tennis clothing needs as well, with the LMT range. Now, all the major tennis gear manufacturers have girl’s, boy’s or unisex kids tennis apparel lines alongside their adult clothing, so lack of choice is no longer an issue.

Girl’s And Women’s Tennis Fashion Merge

Women who look to the high-fashion, cutting-edge tennis apparel worn by the leading players for inspiration, can now encourage their daughters to do the same. For example, the identical Adidas adilibria tennis dress recently co-designed and worn by Ana Ivanovic was available in girls’ sizes with all the ‘Climacool’ technology and comfort meshing of the adult dress. Other familiar Adidas tennis lines like ‘Barricade’, ‘Edge’ and ‘Competition’ also have their girl-sized counterparts, so mother and daughter can wear complementary apparel at the tennis club.

Nike, as you might expect, have their own girls tennis clothing lines such as ‘Athlete’, that mirror the apparel worn by the women. Like Adidas, there’s plenty of variety in dresses, skirts, skorts, shirts, tennis shoes and accessories, with comfort features like Dri-FIT, to give the same cooling and moisture management as the adult version.

Fila, with two of the game’s big hitters, Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova on their books, is hot on the heels of the two largest tennis apparel manufacturers, Adidas and Nike, with it’s own girls’ selection. They produce junior varieties of familiar women’s tennis favorites like the ‘Essenza’ tennis dress. These dresses are made with sun protective material, to reduce UV damage to young ladies’ skins. This can be an important consideration in warmer climes where tennis is an outdoor activity.

Tennis Apparel For Those Rebellious Years

There will come a time when your young lady would rather wear distinctive (tennis) clothing than try to copy her mother as she moves into adulthood. There’s a tennis apparel manufacturer keen to cater to these more rebellious instincts – DUC. They’re happy that their clothing isn’t designed for people too far into their 20s or beyond. They draw a little from the history of women’s tennis dress with subtle pleating, but make it asymmetrical to keep abreast of the times.

Much of the clothing is labeled with assertive, slightly racy tags like ‘Dominate’ (dress), ‘Compete’ (skirt), ‘Rush’ (racer-back top) and 2-Timer (reversible top), and accentuates feminine contours. The 2-Timer top actually refers to it’s reversible two-tops-in-one feature, which when combined with the large choice of colors and reversible skirt, creates a wide range of styles – great for emphasizing your unique style. Reversing your apparel and changing your look during a match might also have beneficial unsettling effects on your opponent. Though cutting edge in design, DUC tennis clothing lacks none of the comfort features prerequisite in modern tennis clothing.

So, from youngster to young women, varied, vibrant, in vogue girl’s tennis clothing is in plentiful supply. Thanks to determined women like Marilyn Kosten, the ‘dark ages’ are over, and girls can revel in the choice of cutting-edge tennis apparel that was until recently the sole preserve of their parents.

Baby Clothes Essentials For the First Year

What are the things you need to consider when buying new baby outfits? For sure, you may want to buy almost everything for your kids. Somehow, choosing and buying the new wardrobe for your baby is the same as buying stuff for yourself. One thing you need to consider when purchasing clothes for your baby is if the item you’re buying is of good quality and worthy enough to be used by the next baby. If that is the case, then buying the high quality and more expensive baby clothes is more practical.

When buying baby clothing, consider the size of the clothes and how long your baby will be able to wear them. Babies grow fast and purchasing clothes that “fit just right” is not the best way to do it. Ensure to buy big sized clothing so you can be assured your baby can still use them in the months to come.

Pajamas are very important clothing apparel for your baby. Sleep is all your baby will do during the initial months and making her comfortable should be your top-most priority. Thus, depending on the weather, you may opt for overalls instead of long pajamas to keep her cool while sleeping.

For her outerwear, you still have a lot of choices such as dresses, knitted tops and bottoms, baby tights, and leggings. Let your baby’s personality shine through the clothes that she’s wearing. Choose colors such as pink, yellow, violet, greens, and orange, and don’t hesitate to mix and match colors for you to see what combinations look best for your princess. For sure, you’d be very happy and flattered when you hear the “oohs” and “aahhs” of family and friends when they see your cute little bundle dressed up to the nines. Just ensure that when it’s time for a diaper change, her clothes are easy to remove to save on time and keep your baby from being fussy.

Include a set of baby clothes that she can use as house clothes. These need not be made of expensive material, but ensure that they are soft and comfortable for her. You may opt to get a couple of t-shirts, shorts, skirts, and leggings for her everyday attire.

Finally, don’t forget to document every time you dress up your baby. Take lots of pictures. The change from baby to toddler stage is really fast that some gifts she received during her baptism or the last Christmas season might end up not being used at all. And when she celebrates her Sweet Sixteen, wouldn’t it be nice to recall that the once cute and chubby little baby is now, herself, a lady.

How to Look Great When You Have a Plus Size Figure

It’s a misnomer that only the thin look stylish, there are many ways the more voluptuous person can improve their image, it’s just a matter of sticking to some basic rules.

What you have to remember, is that the thinner and younger you are, the more you can get away with, the older and larger you become, the harder it is to look as great as easily – but it’s well away from impossible.

Why not try some of the following ideas.

1. Fit is all important – if clothes fit you well they look more expensive. Also, if you’re clothes are too tight and you look squeezed into them, people will just think you’ve put on weight, you’re not fooling anyone, and the reason size tags are on the inside of the clothing is so that no one need know what size you’re wearing. Don’t like the size? Cut the tag out. If something doesn’t fit right, and can’t be easily altered, just don’t buy it.

2. Quality construction and fabric – better fabrics, closer stitching, not having threads hanging off your clothes and cheap looking patterns all ruin the effect of your clothes, and draw attention to them when you may not want this to happen.

3. Think vertical – Avoid horizontal lines, try to include multiple vertical lines, from a centre row of buttons, to front creases in your trousers, princess seams or a jacket left undone, vertical lines lengthen and slim the body, horizontal lines shorten and widen.

4. Fabric makes all the difference – a soft, drapable fabric that skims (not clings) will make the world of difference. Any fabric that looks like it could stand up on it’s own will only make you look bigger. Also, the more textured or bulky a fabric, the bulkier you will look.

5. Colour – the right colours draw attention away from your perceived flaws – find out your colour direction with a colour analysis, and draw attention to your face and features and away from your body parts that you dislike. The right colours will make you glow and look fabulous, and nobody will be looking at your body because they won’t be able to help staring into your bright eyes.

6. Accessorise – great jewellery – necklaces and earrings in particular – will draw attention away from your body and up to your face – use them to distract and highlight.

7. Great Shoes – often comfort becomes the all important feature of shoes, but consider how different shoes can make an outfilt look – are yours helping you look stylish or dowdy?

8. Proportion is key – the mistake many manufacturers of clothing for the larger lady make is that along with being a bit wider, you’ve also grown 7 foot tall, and suddenly all tops are very long – this can actually make you look shorter and wider as you loose leg length, and leg length makes you look taller and slimmer.

Medieval Fashion – Lady Hunter Dress – Chic Yet Overlooked Medieval Clothing

The history of medieval fashion dates back from 1066 and was highly influenced by the Royalty era. This is the time where Kings and Queens usually ruled the land. The upper class individuals were deemed as the only ones who could dress fashionably. Then there was this Sumptuary Law passed by King Edward III stating that only royalty were allowed to wear gold cloth and purple silk. Women from the lower class were banned from wearing expensive veils. Velvet, satin sable or ermine were only allowed to be worn by wives and children of the nobles.

The medieval trends changed with the reign of each king and queen. A lot of crusades had happened during this time and it greatly affected fashion. Silks, satins, damasks, velvets and brocades were already imported from the Far East at this time. Fashion in France, Spain and Italy had strongly influenced the fashion trends of Medieval England.

Medieval dresses also played a big role in society. There are many different types of dresses in this era. There is the princess dress, lady in waiting dress and much more. Another popular but most often overlook medieval clothing is the Lady Hunter Dress. The Lady Hunter Dress is usually worn when a lady goes hunting with the men in the woods. It is often worn with chemises and accessories such as a crown, jewels, purse, and sometimes with a sword. Thigh-high boots are recommended to be paired with this dress.

Perhaps people are wondering why this dress is called “Lady Hunter Dress”. The wearer perfectly knows that this dress matches the hounds and the horse she has and completes her look. It makes the character projected more expressive and complete. The wearer would feel she is well equipped when going to the woodlands with this outfit.

The lady hunter dress is made of natural cotton. It has lacings on the sides and the sleeves are fitted well. It allows having light size adjustments easily. There are fine trimmings on the neck, sleeves, bottom and the belt which completes the perfect look. You could have a trimmed fabric belt used as an additional accessory. Sometimes this dress is worn with a bodice vest or pereline. The bodice is made of natural red flax material with beautiful lace silk trimmings on the side.

The lady hunter dress will suit both the young lady from any medieval European country or the heroine from the fantasy stories that we often read about. The only difference that can be seen is the headpiece. The lady from the medieval period can wear a headdress while the heroine can wear a striking crown or headpiece.

Regardless of the purpose of the lady hunter dress, women who donned this kind of medieval clothing still managed to wear it gracefully amidst the very rough terrain and conditions that they had to contend with. Similar to modern day outdoor wear for both men and women, the Lady Hunter Dress focuses on form and function which probably at that period was the reason why most females, especially from the middle and lower class, preferred to wear them compared to their usual line of clothing or apparel.
